We use a machine called the Terralift™. The Terralift™ probe is inserted into the ground down to the bottom of the leach field trenches. With a blast of compressed air, it creates a series of fissures and cracks in the leach field that loosens the compacted soil and breaks up the bio-mat that has formed on the walls of the trenches.
At the same time, Terralift™ injects polystyrene beads into the fissures that have been opened to provide long term percolation of liquids away from the trenches. Because air tends to follow the path of least resistance, both the air and the beads will move horizontally and vertically upward through the soil. The beads will keep the air and water passages open to ensure proper leaching on a long term
basis.
around each of the leach field trenches as
indicated in the diagram above. $7,500 and $15,000. Terralift™ is a more affordable option, typically around $3,000. Excavation takes a tremendous amount of time, requires digging up the entire field, destroys existing turf cover, and releases a foul smell into the entire area. By contrast, a Terralift™ treatment can restore a clogged leach field in less than a day, even if the field is covered with water.
